Tianjin Zhongjin Pharmaceutical is becoming the largest vitamin B-1 manufacturer in the world with annual production of more than 1,200 metric tons. As environmental concern increases regards the thiamine production process, Western factories are moving their productions into the under-developing countries. Tianjin Zhongjin is expanding their facility to meet the growing demands, however, they also invested very heavily in 2000 to build a waste water treatment center to solve the environment problems. They were one of the first Chinese factories to realize the importance of meeting the Western manufacturing standards. They started to modernize their facility in 1999 and in 2001 they gained the GMP certification.
